Luckily, Cassie’s new girlfriend comes with a cute hipster-boy sidekick. If Molly can win him over, she’ll get her first kiss and she’ll get her twin back.
There’s only one problem: Molly’s coworker, Reid. He’s a chubby Tolkien superfan with a season pass to the Ren Faire, and there’s absolutely no way Molly could fall for him.

The Upside of Unrequited is a fun and quick read. Becky’s writing style is just wonderful – it’s so easy to read and it’s entertaining. I enjoyed it very much. Her writing style is the one I need for a contemporary book. Contemporary is not really my favorite genre but if Becky Albertalli is the one who wrote a book from that genre, I’ll probably read it without hesitations.
Molly, our main character, has a list of crushes but never been kissed. It’s because she’s always careful and sometimes too careful that she doesn’t even try. Molly has anxiety that also contributes to why she never had a boyfriend. The characters were great, this book are full of honest and relatable scenes about teenagers everyday life.
The story is very simple but sweet, fun and cute. I’m like smiling the whole time while reading the book. I really love all the relationships throughout this book: Molly and Reid, Cassie and Mina. And don’t forget about Nadine and Patty. They’re such a great and positive parents, I really liked them. I kind of predicted on what will happen in the end but it’s still amazing, thanks to Becky’s wonderful writing.
Overall, it’s such a fun and fast-paced read. The characters are very relatable and this book is honest and I think many teenagers can relate to this book. Becky Albertalli have done a great job creating this story just like when she wrote Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Now I’m psyched and I can’t wait for her future books.
